My Matrices of Influence (Comedy)

This came from Rainn Wilson’s website www.soulpancake.com

List 5 people who influence your art (Comedy) and how

(This is not a final product)
1. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld (Creators of Seinfeld)
– My first favorite comedy show was Seinfeld. Even though I have other shows nowadays that I think are written fantastically I still have a soft spot in my heart for Seinfeld. Its use of comedy in an everyday sense to be is brilliant. If you sit and watch two guys at a diner they act almost exactly like how Jerry and George are portrayed in the show.

2. Monty Python
– These guys are some of the smartest comedians I have ever heard of. Some people may see them as silly (They are). Some people may see them as irreverent (They are). Some people may see them as very intelligent (They are). They were all smart social commentators as well as experts at making people laugh. I wish that kind of comedy was more prominent nowadays in America.

3. Adam Sandler
– This guy was my favorite comedian for years. I loved is slight retardation as well as his charm that he always had with women. When I was younger I could sit and watch all of his movies over and over again.

4. Conan O’Brien
– The first time I REALLY watched his late night show I was rolling on the floor laughing (I could have just used rofl for the first time) His show had a great blend of absurdity with intelligence as well as just flat out funny interaction with Conan and his guest. He is a very smart guy (Harvard Grad) and he has written for two of the funniest shows in American history (The Simpsons and SNL) .

5. Jim Carrey
– My first comedic hero was none other than Jim Carrey. I remember quoting him when I was in the 4th grade. He made and makes me laugh everytime that I see or hear him. He hasn’t sold out nor has he outgrown his comedy. He is still just as silly. He also is a great actor outside of comedy. The Truman show is one of my favorite movies ever.
